Jail Reform

I have established a GED program for inmates to have something to work toward while in jail. I believe if inmates have a reason to accomplish something, they will. There's many reasons to earn a GED for an inmate, including its increasing importance in gaining employment and self-satisfaction. Inmates must apply for the program and be approved. Those who complete the program have more hope in turning their lives around which is ultimately up to the inmates themselves.

Along with the GED program, I have also started an inmate road crew for inmates serving time for non-violent crimes. Inmates must apply for this program and be approved. I believe the inmate road crew is very beneficial in that it keeps our roads cleaner and saves the county money. In addition, inmates enjoy the time out of the jail cell while working on the road crew.
